After nine years employed as a legal costs consultant with Law Costs, Alan Adrian founded Queensland Independent Costing Services (QICS) in 1989, initially employing two assessors and two typists.
Driving the business strategy for QICS, Alan has successfully grown the organisation to now provide services nationally. As a reflection of his commitment and hard work, QICS is now one of the most recognised legal costing providers in Australia with nine costs lawyers, four costs consultants, and 12 support staff—all full time—in five offices.
During his extensive 40+ year career, Alan has earned his reputation as one of the most trusted and proficient professionals in the legal costing industry. He specialises in providing legal practices with recommendations to ensure that cost recovery is transparent, effective, and compliant.
Alan is sought after by the Australian legal profession for his attention to detail, management advice, and counselling. Being highly regarded in this field, he is regularly called on to give evidence in court as a cost expert every year.
Alan’s passion for the industry and willingness to give back to the community has led him to share his insight and knowledge by presenting on the Practical Legal Training course at Bond University Law Faculty for well over 10 years. And he is not one to turn down the opportunity to present on legal costs for CLE presentations to local law associations, the Queensland Law Society and in-house for legal firms either.
Alan is not all work. In his rare moments of downtime, he enjoys life with his beautiful wife, spending time with his four daughters and seven grandchildren and enjoying the company of good friends. He is also an avid traveler and loves to cheer on the horses.
